decibel (dB) one-tenth of a bel.

The Decibel scale is a logarithmic scale used to express measurement of sound pressure in an easiest way than micropascals. A decibel is approximately equal to the smallest intensity variation noticeable to the normal hearing ear.

detection the ability to sense the presence or absence of sound. This ability is influenced by the intensity of the signal and physiologic hearing sensitivity – or in the case of a cochlear implant, the microphone sensitivity control settings. Detection is the most basic auditory skill upon which all other higher order auditory abilities (sound discrimination, identification, recognition, and comprehension) depend.

digital Digital sound processing means that the sound signal is represented as a series of discrete numbers. These numbers reflect its pitch and volume at a given instant in time.

Dynamic Range (Acoustic) is a single number representing the range of sound levels between threshold and the highest comfortable level.
