Electrical dynamic range The EDR of a cochlear implant recipient (the difference between measured electrical threshold (T) and comfort (M) levels) is much narrower than the acoustic range of speech. In order for an individual to perceive the full range and variety of the speech signal therefore, a cochlear implant must use a compression to fit the fluctuating speech signal into the dynamic range of implant user.
