When you leave the hospital, you will not yet be able to hear because the external components of your HiResolution® Bionic Ear System have not yet been fitted.

Your first fitting will be scheduled about four to six weeks after your operation. This allows for a complete recovery period of the area around the implant, although you will usually be "back to normal" or at "full-strength" within a week or two.

This initial fitting is a very exciting and emotional time for everyone involved. You will be introduced to your personal sound processor. Your audiologist or clinician will measure your levels and customise your preferred strategy so that you gain the most benefit. However the sounds can seem odd and confusing at first and it can take several months before the sounds with the HiRes® deliver maximum benefit.

So, in the weeks or months that follow the initial programming, you will occasionally return to the audiologist to further optimise hearing with the HiResolution® Bionic Ear System. Visits to the audiology clinic will be infrequent over time, until they are only necessary for annual check-ups or to address any unexpected changes.
